ORGANIZATION'S ACHIEVEMENT(s) OR SUCESS STORIES SINCE IT STARTED OPERATIONS
 


Main sources of Funding: 

CARE International, International Cocoa Initiative, PDA, Ministery of Manpower of Ghana.

  • Won the confidence of the Community members, the District Assemblies and the traditional Authorities in the Wassa West District, Wassa Amenfi East and West District, Kwaebibrim and West Akim District.

  • Facilitated relationship amongst extractive industries and communities in their operational area and ensured social accountability through the use of community score card.

  • Facilitated processes that have led to establishment of models of farm forest in cocoa farms in 30 communities in western region.

  • Raised and Managed over GHC1,000,000 project fund the past four years, which enhanced successful achievement of objectives of projects

  • Facilitated processes that had led to establishment of a platform for land and forest forum on the Wassa West District, Kwaebiberem and West Akim District

  • Brought together major migrant farmers and landowners who initially had major land and community tension in and around Nuakokrom, Dompim, Simpa and Abumpuniso, all in the Wassa West District.
 
 

  • Facilitate process that has led to establishment of management bodies that look into Water and sanitation in the Wassa West District and are implementing their plans now.

  • Facilitated smooth dialogue between Anglogold Ashanti and Abumpuniso (Wassa Community) and its surroundings over the demarcation of boundary between Anglogold concession and Awodua traditional land. Demarcation is in progress.

  • Through interactions and gender mainstreaming designs, women now participate in decision making on water, land and forest.


  • Facilitated activities in communities that have led community members to become aware of their rights and responsibilities regarding natural resource issues. Communities have negotiated with timber companies working in the area to provide essential infrastructural needs and compensation paid like in Nuakokrom, Dompim and Abumpuniso.


  • Caregivers for People Living with HIV/AIDS now involve in income generation activities in Bakery, catering, tailoring and farming through micro-finance activities undertaken in the WASH project.
